Bubba and the Missing Star

Bubba was a little Wizard. Bubba lived on the Astral Plane, where the sky was soft and dark, and tiny lights winked like sleepy eyes.

One day, Bubba said, “Uh-oh.” A bright star was missing. The space above his small cloud-step looked like a bite was taken out.

Bubba held his wand. His hands were small. His heart was big. “We find star,” Bubba whispered.

A gentle Relic Keeper floated in. The Relic Keeper carried a pouch that jingled. “I keep old, special things,” the Relic Keeper said. “But today, something is lost.”

A calm Sage sat on a round moon-stone. The Sage blinked slowly. “Look. Listen. Follow the glow,” the Sage said.

A shiny Crystal Guardian stood by a crystal gate. The Crystal Guardian was strong and kind. “I will keep you safe,” the Crystal Guardian said.

They walked on star-steps. Tip. Tap. Tip. Tap.

They came to a quiet place where the light was dim.

A tall Ancient Guardian appeared. It looked like a statue made of night. It crossed its arms.

“Stop,” the Ancient Guardian rumbled.

Bubba felt a little shake in his tummy. He held his wand closer.

Relic Keeper whispered, “Be polite.”

Sage whispered, “Be brave.”

Crystal Guardian whispered, “Stay near me.”

Bubba took one small step forward. “Hello,” Bubba said.

The Ancient Guardian blinked. “Why are you here?”

Bubba pointed up. “Star gone. We bring back star.”

The Ancient Guardian made a low sound. Not angry. Just old. “Many try. Few are gentle.”

Bubba looked around. He saw tiny sparkles on the ground, like crumbs.

“Star crumbs!” Bubba said.

They followed the crumbs. They went past a swirly mist. The mist tickled Bubba’s nose.

“Achoo!” Bubba sneezed.

Relic Keeper giggled. “Bless you, little Wizard.”

Under the mist was a small hollow. Inside was the missing star. It was not big. It was curled up like a sleepy kitten.

The star made a tiny sound: “mm.”

Bubba knelt down. “Hi, star,” he said softly. “You okay?”

The star flickered. It was scared.

Sage said, “Warm voice. Slow hands.”

Bubba opened his hands like a bowl. “Come,” he whispered.

The star rolled into Bubba’s palms. It felt warm, like fresh toast.

But the Ancient Guardian was behind them.

“Mine,” it rumbled.

Crystal Guardian stepped in front. “No. The sky needs it.”

Bubba’s knees wobbled. Then Bubba remembered: gentle.

Bubba looked up at the Ancient Guardian. “You lonely?” Bubba asked.

The Ancient Guardian paused. Its hard face softened a bit.

Relic Keeper opened the jingling pouch. “A gift for guardians,” the Relic Keeper said.

Out came a tiny crystal bell. Ding. Ding.

The sound was sweet and bright. The Ancient Guardian tilted its head, like it was listening to a lullaby.

Sage nodded. “Trade with kindness.”

Bubba said, “You can keep bell. We put star back.”

The Ancient Guardian held the bell carefully. “Ding,” it tried, very softly.

Then it moved aside.

They climbed the highest cloud-step. Bubba lifted the star.

“Up you go,” Bubba said.

The star floated into the sky and clicked into the missing spot. The Astral Plane glowed again. The lights winked happily.

A new surprise happened. The star dropped one shiny thing into Bubba’s pocket: a little Star Pebble, smooth and bright.

Bubba laughed. “Treasure!”

Crystal Guardian smiled. Relic Keeper clapped. Sage said, “Good Wizard.”

Even the Ancient Guardian gave a slow nod. “Gentle is strong,” it rumbled.

Bubba held the Star Pebble tight. On the way home, it glowed like a night-light.

Bubba felt cozy and brave. And the sky had its star back.
