In a tall Castle, Curtis James lived. He was a Superhero. He was brave, but also gentle. He liked to help.
One morning, the Princess ran to him. “Curtis! My shiny crown is gone!”
Curtis James knelt down. “Don’t cry. We will find it. We will look slow. We will look together.”
They walked in the Castle hall. Tap, tap. Curtis listened. “Do you hear that?”
A tiny sound went: clink… clink…
The Princess held his cape. “Is it my crown?”
“Maybe,” said Curtis. “Let’s follow the sound.”
They looked under a big red rug. No crown.
They looked behind a curtain. No crown.
They looked by the tall window. No crown.
The Princess sniffed. “I miss it.”
Curtis James spoke softly. “You feel sad. That is okay. I am here.”
Then they heard a new sound.
Grrr… thump… thump…
A Monster was in the Castle kitchen door. It was big. It had wide eyes. It held a pot on its head like a hat.
The Princess hid. “Monster!”
Curtis James stood tall. But his voice stayed kind. “Hello, Monster. Are you lost?”
The Monster blinked. “I… I heard a sparkle. I followed it. Now I am stuck.”
Curtis looked at the pot-hat. It was shiny, but not the crown.
“Monster,” said Curtis, “did you see a crown?”
The Monster pointed with a shaky finger. “Down. Cold. Dark.”
Curtis nodded. “The basement steps. Okay. Princess, hold my hand.”
They went down, down, down. The Castle stairs were cool. Drip, drip went water.
The Princess whispered, “I am scared.”
Curtis whispered back, “Me too, a little. We can be scared and still go.”
The Monster followed slowly. “I will not bite,” it said.
At the bottom, there was a small door. It was half open.
Inside, something glittered.
Curtis James shone his hero light. “I see it!”
The crown sat on a box of old toys. It was safe, but dusty.
The Princess clapped. “My crown!”
But the box wobbled. The crown slid.
Curtis moved fast. Whoosh! He caught it in one hand.
“Saved,” he said.
The Princess hugged the crown. “Thank you, Curtis James.”
The Monster looked down. “I did not mean to take it. I just wanted something shiny.”
Curtis thought. Then he smiled. “Everyone can like shiny things. But we ask first.”
The Princess looked at the Monster. She took a deep breath. “Monster… you helped us. You showed the way.”
The Monster’s eyes got soft. “I did help?”
“Yes,” said Curtis. “And heroes share.”
He opened the toy box. Inside was a treasure: bright gold stickers and a little silver bell.
Curtis gave the Monster the bell. “This is your shiny treasure. Ding it when you want a friend.”
Ding-ding!
The Monster giggled. The Princess giggled too.
Back upstairs, the Princess put on her crown. Curtis James got a new badge from the Princess: a star medal that said “Kind Hero.”
In the Castle, they all waved.
The crown was found.
The Monster had a bell.
And Curtis James felt warm inside, like a cozy blanket.
