Cam Could Do and the Dancing Toy

Kids stories

Superhero Cam Could Do helps a sad Toy Robot fix its music box with King, Egg, and Spellcaster on a sunny Island.
Cam Could Do and the Dancing Toy

On a bright little Island, Superhero Cam Could Do woke up early.

Cam wore a red cape, blue boots, and a shiny star on his tummy. He was small, but he was brave. When something was hard, Cam liked to say, “I can try!”

The Island had soft sand, green palms, and a tiny castle by the sea. In the castle lived King. King had a gold crown that was a bit too big. It slid down to his nose.

“Good morning, Cam!” said King. “Oh! My crown is tickling me.”

Cam giggled. “Hello, King!”

Then they heard a sound.

Clunk. Clunk. Clunk.

It came from the beach.

Cam and King hurried over. There sat a big Toy Robot. It had square feet, round eyes, and a little wind-up key on its back. Its name was Toy.

Toy looked sad.

“My music box is broken,” said Toy in a beep-beep voice. “I want to dance. But I cannot dance.”

Toy tried to move.

Clunk!

One foot went up. The other foot went down. Then Toy gently fell into the sand.

“Oh no,” said King.

Toy’s eyes blinked blue. “No dance. No happy song.”

Cam bent down beside Toy. Cam was a superhero, but he was also kind. “Do not worry, Toy. We can help.”

“I can try!” said Cam.

From behind a coconut tree popped Egg. Egg was a small, cheerful egg with yellow shoes. Egg loved to roll everywhere.

“I heard clunking!” said Egg. “Is it a clunking game?”

“No game,” said Toy sadly. “My music box is broken.”

Egg put one tiny hand on Toy’s metal arm. “We will fix it!”

A silver sparkle whooshed over the sand. It was Spellcaster, the Island’s gentle magic helper. Spellcaster wore a purple hat with stars and carried a wand with a moon at the top.

“Hello, little helpers,” said Spellcaster. “Toy needs three things for a happy music box: a shell that sings, a bright blue feather, and one drop of warm sunshine.”

King held his crown. “Where are they?”

Spellcaster pointed. “The shell is by the waves. The feather is high in the palm tree. The sunshine drop is in the morning flower garden.”

Cam nodded. “We can go together.”

First, they went to the waves. The sea said, “Shh, shh, shh.” Many shells lay on the sand.

Egg rolled past a pink shell. “Not that one!”

King found a stripy shell. “Is this it?”

Cam held it to his ear.

The shell sang, “La-la-la!”

“That is the one!” said Cam.

Next, they went to the tall palm tree. A blue feather danced way up high.

King looked up. “Too high for my crown.”

Egg tried to roll up the trunk. Roll, roll, plop! Egg landed softly in a pile of leaves.

“I am okay!” Egg said. “Trees are not for rolling.”

Cam looked around. He had an idea. “King, hold my cape. Egg, stand on King’s big cushion.”

They made a small, safe tower. Cam climbed carefully. Reach... reach...

Got it!

Cam held up the bright blue feather.

“Hooray!” said everyone.

Last, they went to the flower garden. Yellow flowers opened in the warm sun. On one flower petal sat a tiny golden drop.

Toy came too, slowly. Clunk. Clunk. Clunk.

“I want to help,” Toy said.

Cam smiled. “You can hold the little cup very still.”

Toy held the cup. He was very still. Not one clunk. Not two clunks. Very still.

Plip!

The sunshine drop fell into the cup.

“You did it!” said Egg.

Toy’s blue eyes blinked bright. “I helped!”

Back at the beach, Spellcaster opened Toy’s little music-box door. Cam put in the singing shell. King placed in the blue feather. Egg carefully tipped in the sunshine drop.

Spellcaster tapped the box with the moon wand.

Ting!

The music box began to play.

“Tra-la-la! Tum-tum-tum!”

Toy stood up. One foot went left. One foot went right. His arms swung high.

He was dancing!

Cam danced. Egg rolled in circles. King danced so much that his crown slid over his eyes. Spellcaster laughed and made little star lights twinkle over the Island.

Toy beeped happily. “Thank you, friends. You fixed my song.”

Then Toy opened a secret door in his tummy.

Inside was a treasure: four tiny gold star badges, a silver shell whistle, and a bright red cape just Cam’s size.

“For my helpers,” said Toy.

Cam put on the new cape. It fluttered in the sea breeze. His old cape and new cape made a double swish.

King gave Cam a shiny medal too. “Cam Could Do, you are the Island’s Superhero Helper!”

Cam smiled. “We all could do it. We helped together.”

The music played. The waves went shh, shh, shh. And on the happy little Island, everyone danced until the sun went down.
